Australian
Forestry Standard (AFS)
Gunns Limited, the parent company of GPL, is the first Australian
forest products company to achieve certification to the Australian
Forestry Standard (AFS). The AFS is a sign of sustainable forestry
management practices that was developed using stringent internationally
agreed criteria. Strict social, environmental and economic standards
are considered for certification to the AFS.

Australia has significantly
raised its international profile with the mutual recognition of
the AFS by the world's leading certification body, the Programme
for the Endorsement of Forest Certification Schemes (PEFC). The
mutual recognition status now allows Gunns to access the PEFC logo
for use in the international markets where labelling provides recognition
for wood products which promote sustainable forest management.

Principles of Sustainable Forest
Management
Gunns Limited has developed some key principles in Sustainable
Forest Management. These principles are the pillars that underpin
our policies and procedures in relation to forest management.
ISO
14001
Gunns' Forest operations first obtained ISO 14001 certification
in December 1998, being the first in Australia to obtain this certification.
This is clear evidence that Gunns environmental management systems
meet global standards. Re-certification was obtained in November
2001 and Det Norske Veritas successfully carried out audit in May
2002.
