Wilderness Society gets it wrong again
18 September 2008
The Wilderness Society has again been caught out making false claims about Gunns' proposed Bell Bay Mill, taking an anti-mill tour to "threatened forests"
The mill is plantation based. None of the high-conservation value forests the tour will visit will ever be used in the mill.
There will be no increase in logging at all to supply the mill. Woodchips we currently ship overseas will now simply be processed in Tasmania, providing local jobs and reducing carbon
emissions from shipping
The Wilderness Society tour will also visit Launceston's Cataract Gorge, claiming that it is "part of the river system from which Gunns will take fresh water", however not one extra litre of water will be taken out of the river system
The mill will be the greenest mill in the world, carbon positive and providing enough surplus green electricity to power Launceston.
