Bell Bay Pulp Mill
27 August 2008
The final module of the Environmental Impact Management Plan (EIMP) for the Bell Bay Pulp Mill was submitted to the Federal Government last week for approval.
It has taken 10 months for Gunns to prepare all 16 modules for approval "with significant resources employed to ensure that the Bell Bay Pulp Mill project delivers best practice in environmental management."
The proposed mill will make a positive contribution towards climate change "by generating clean and green electricity which will replace fossil fuel energy and reduce transport emissions."
The proposed mill will create up to 2000 direct and indirect jobs for Tasmania during the operating phase, with significantly more during the construction phase.
Gunns has a target of using 100 per cent plantation timber at the mill within five years of operation.
Old Growth Forests will never be used.
